Star Sky- A macedonian story

“In memory of Stefan Pekalić 1926-2018”

“In memory of Peter Vereckei 1979-2021”

Two centuries. Two cities.
One recurring battle.

Between industry and nature.
Between power and principle.
Between what we inherit —
and what we leave behind.

Book cover of Star Sky: A Macedonian Story by Sabastian Gall, featuring a dramatic painted collage of scenes including a helicopter pilot, a young woman in the foreground, mountainous landscapes near Strumica, mining machinery cutting into a hillside, and groups of people gathered in protest, symbolizing conflict between industry, nature, and society.

What connects 21st-century Strumica with the smoke-filled streets of Victorian Manchester?

In the mountains near Strumica, a Canadian gold-mining company secures extraction rights. Protests ignite as machines claw into once-untouched landscapes. Petra and Tamás stand at the center of the resistance, joined by an unlikely alliance: a top-division footballer, an accounting professor pouring pints in a Scottish pub, a television editor, a wealthy merchant, and the procurement leader of Texas’s largest oil company. While the Macedonian secret service conducts dirty campaigns, this diverse group finds themselves drawn into the greatest adventure of their lives — a fight where politics, business, and personal morality collide.

Meanwhile, in Victorian England, we find young Thomas Pickwick, drawn to Manchester amid industrial turmoil and social unrest. Residents and students rally against a river-poisoning textile factory. Factions of Whigs, Royalists, and Radicals clash in the streets.
