In the small Icelandic town of Egilsstaðir, every resident remembers the same thing: in 2023, they saw on the news that Vladimir Putin was killed during a rebellion led by Yevgeny Prigozhin and his mercenary forces. Then one day in 2026, they turn on the television… and freeze in disbelief. Putin is alive — and still the President of Russia. Everyone in the surrounding towns is baffled by their shock. To them, nothing has ever been different.
On the other side of the world, in the New Zealand town of Wainuiomata, the entire population shares another certainty: communism in China collapsed in 1990. But in 2026, they too are confronted with an impossible truth: the Chinese Communist Party is still firmly in power. And the most terrifying part? No one else finds this strange.
Two isolated communities.
Two conflicting pasts.
One haunting question: What happens when your memories no longer match reality? Or worse… what if reality itself has changed — just not for everyone?
